Felipe Carrillo Puerto was a Mexican politician, revolutionary, and governor of the state of Yucatán. He was born on November 8, 1874, in Motul, Yucatán, and was committed to advocating for the rights of indigenous peoples in Mexico.
Carrillo Puerto was a member of the Mexican Socialist Party and the Mexican Liberal Party, and he played a key role in organizing the agrarian movement in Yucatán. He was elected governor of the state in 1922 and implemented social reforms aimed at improving the living conditions of the indigenous population, including land reform and education initiatives.
In 1924, Carrillo Puerto was assassinated by political opponents who disagreed with his radical policies and socialist ideas. Despite his untimely death, he is remembered as a champion of indigenous rights and social justice in Mexico. Today, there are numerous monuments and streets named after him in Mexico to honor his legacy.
